FIRE AND STORY FESTIVAL ANIMATION
Timeline: 3 weeks
Software: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, Maxon Looks
For this project, I worked collaboratively with fellow design students Mady Sauri, Riley Reynolds, and Una Nei to create a projected animation for the Fire and Story festival in Bellingham. The animation was projected onto the Tile Tanks on Bellingham’s waterfront area overlooking the festival grounds. We were given the conceptual theme “Growth” to reflect in our animation.

THE STORY
Reflecting on the theme “Growth”, our team decided to focus on themes of cycles, death, and rebirth. From this, we got the idea of basing our story off of Pagen rituals.
RESEARCH
To make sure the design fit our vision, I carefully researched animals that are central to Pagan winter rituals, and studied art in folklore to find a style that would fit seamlessly with the mood of our animation.
COLORS AND CHARACTER DESIGN
We agreed upon strictly adhering to a high-contrast color palette, due to the risk that our animation could project with low contrast. Not only could the colors be affected, but due to the projection being far away, details could be lost. That strongly affected my decision-making for the character design.
